Mac Dock apps compared: PrimoDock, uBar, ActiveDock and DockDoor Pro
All four replace the Mac Dock, but they solve different things. DockDoor Pro has the most widgets, uBar makes a Windows-style taskbar, ActiveDock merges Dock and Launchpad, and PrimoDock is the only one that also runs on Windows, on one licence for 1 Mac and 1 PC.

uBar
Replaces the Dock with a bar that can be a Dock or a Windows-style taskbar, with window previews, several rows and one bar per display. Version 5 needs macOS 26 Tahoe, so Sonoma and Sequoia are left out. Good for people coming from Windows who want the taskbar on the Mac.
ActiveDock
Replaces the Dock and Launchpad, or sits next to the Mac Dock. It has themes, folders, window previews and a Start-style menu. It does not do several Docks: the app’s own FAQ points to another program for that.
DockDoor Pro
The closest to PrimoDock on the Mac. It has profiles, each with its own apps and widgets, switched automatically by the app in front, and about 50 widgets plus community ones. Mac only. From the same maker, the free and open-source DockDoor sits on top of the Mac Dock and adds window previews.
PrimoDock
Work, home and focus workspaces that switch with a shortcut or by themselves with macOS Focus, 31 widgets that open a panel, seasonal themes and icon packs. What only it does among the four: the same Dock on Windows 11, with the same themes and icons, on one licence for 1 Mac and 1 PC.
Which one to pick
- Mac only and you want the most widgets: DockDoor Pro.
- You want a Windows taskbar on the Mac, on macOS 26: uBar.
- You want Dock and Launchpad in one place: ActiveDock.
- You use a Mac and a PC, or want workspaces and themes that change with the season: PrimoDock. You get 7 days free to see.
Questions
What is the best uBar alternative on macOS 14 or 15?
uBar 5 needs macOS 26. On Sonoma and Sequoia, PrimoDock, ActiveDock and DockDoor Pro run from macOS 14 (the last two from 14.6).
Do any of these run on both Mac and Windows?
Of the four, only PrimoDock. The same licence activates on 1 Mac and 1 PC, with the same themes and icon packs.
Can I use more than one at the same time?
It is not worth it: the ones that replace the Dock hide the Mac’s and fight over the same edge of the screen. Try one at a time.
